When pioneering producers Coldcut started the esteemed British record label Ninja Tune in 1990 they thought it would be a good idea to start a publishing company too, so they created Just Isn’t Music (JIM) to publish the Ninja Tune releases. Today JIM’s catalogue comprises the majority of the Ninja Tune repertoire and beyond, boasting a diverse roster of songwriters, composers and producers.
With offices in London and Los Angeles, a worldwide network of sub-publishing partners and a high sync-staff-to-catalogue ratio, Just Isn’t Music (JIM) provides a wide array of creative and administrative services from synchronisation procurement and global royalty collection, to writing opportunities, sampling pitching, copyright administration and custom composition for media.
Our sync reputation precedes us. In what is today a highly saturated field, JIM was one of the first in the game and continues to consistently deliver results across all media – whether it be placements in pivotal film scenes and blockbuster trailers, coveted commercials and brand partnerships, original score for film and tv or entire video games soundtracked wall-to-wall with tracks from our publishing and recording catalogues. Apple, Game Of Thrones, Playstation, Yves Saint Laurent, Marvel, The Walking Dead, Audi, Nike, Chanel, Netflix, WWF are only a fraction of our long-term clients and creative projects we’ve contributed music to – visit our showreels page for more.
On the a&r front, JIM’s creative team is bolted on that of Ninja Tune instigating collaborations and providing ready access to a network of hundreds of artists, writers and producers within the family and across the global music industry. Cuts secured on records by Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino amongst others and samples licensed for use on Gold, Platinum and Double Platinum tracks by artists like J Cole, Bryson Tiller and more.
With 30 years of making things happen for our writers, Just Isn’t Music remains artist-founded, fully independent and always ahead of its time.
